Fifty-seven people are beginning a new life as Americans today. The Regency Conference Center in O'Fallon, Illinois is the place where these men and women will take the oath of citizenship.. The naturalization ceremony is the end of a long journey that begins with coming to this country legally, and going through a lengthy process, according to U.S. Magistrate Judge Donald Wilkerson.
He says it is an inspiring event for all patriotic Americans.
The ceremony begins at 10am. The Southern District of Illinois is one of three federal judicial districts in Illinois and is comprised of the 38 southernmost counties. Although the ceremony is an official court proceeding, the Court holds Naturalization ceremonies at locations throughout the district several times a year.
