National Pro Bono Week is underway, and Madison County Chief Judge Ann Callis has signed a proclamation officially recognizing the week locally. There are more than 190 Madison County lawyers who provide hundreds of hours of free legal help each year to those unable to afford an attorney, according to Land of Lincoln Attorney Joan Spiegel.
To honor veterans in our community, the Pro Bono Committee is sponsoring two days of free legal vice for veterans on Thursday, November 8 and Tuesday, November 13 at the Madison County Legal Advice Conference Center in the Courthouse. Spiegel says the need for Pro Bono work is immense.
The Third Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee pulls together judges and lawyers to address the growing demand for pro bono legal services by developing new pro bono delivery models and raising awareness of the need for pro bono legal help.
