The drought is still going on in parts of Western and Central Illinois.  “Particularly from the Quad Cities through Peoria, down here to Lincoln, and over to Monticello,” says warning coordination meteorologist Chris Miller of the National Weather Service in Lincoln, “we’re actually in a severe drought, because of the lack of rainfall that we had from late July through August and early September. The Springfield area is in a moderate drought, and points to the south also, just because it has been a little bit dry the past few months.”

Miller says Central Illinois can expect frost in a week or two; Northern Illinois could see it as soon as this week.
