A Cottage Hills mother has been charged with misdemeanor endangering the life and health of a child and two felony counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. The charges are the result of a pair of incidents over the past three weeks, the first of which allegedly involved the 11-year-old daughter of 31-year-old Nicole L. Edwards finding capsules containing residual amounts of suspected heroin on a dresser in the family’s home.
Madison County Sheriff's Department Captain Mike Dixon:
No arrest was made after another family member turned the empty buttons in to the sheriff's department, as testing had to be done to prove what the substance was. Last Friday, Edwards was allegedly involved in a traffic crash near her home, and was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. During that investigation, results of the testing from the earlier incident came back, leading to her arrest. Edwards, of the first block of Ray in Cottage Hills, was booked in the Madison County Jail on $40,000 bond.
