With the stroke of a pen, a Senate bill that makes a number of changes to how police do their jobs in Illinois has become law.  Police officers now have guidance as to when body cameras should be in operation, if their departments choose to use them.  While that is the focus of many who have seen the bill, there is a lot more according to the co-sponsor, State Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton).

The law also calls for more police officer training in things like the use of force and human rights.  Haine tells The Big Z it also allows for the appointment of a special prosecutor if the person filing can show a potential conflict with that prosecutor.

The laws go into effect January 1, 2016.
