Is Alton setting the stage to bring more solar and wind power to the city? A petition brought to the city council by Deputy Director of Community Development and Housing Matt Asselmeier requests a text amend meant to the zoning ordinance to regulate the usage and placement of solar panels and wind turbines within the city. The plan is to make it easier for private citizens and businesses to install the equipment.
Asselmeier says while there is no rush for permits to install the alternative energy technology, the city wants to be prepared.
He says part of the ordinance would involve getting approval of your neighbors before placing the solar panels or windmills. The issue will be the topic of a public hearing on August 6 at 1:15pm in City Council Chambers.
