For the most part, word of a large federal grant to get things rolling on a new Multimodal Transportation Facility in Alton has been well received. The facility will combine high speed rail and bus service in an area of the current Wadlow Municipal Golf Course on the Homer Adams Parkway in Alton. Some environmental groups are lamenting the loss of green space, but Monica Bristow, President of the Riverbend Growth Association, says that may not be as big an issue as some would assume.
Alton Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau President Brett Stawar says this will increase connectivity around the area- a key to getting more tourism dollars flowing though the area.
A $13.85-million TIGER Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation is being shared with Madison County Transit, which will provide the bus service that will service the train station.
