Talk of troops and healthcare were the theme for other Illinoisans who spoke at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday. Former director of the Illinois Department of Veteran’s Affairs and congressional candidate Tammy Duckworth spoke to delegates and guests about the good that the president has done for veterans across the country.

“When it comes to our men and women in harm’s way, we have a clear choice on November 6,” Duckworth said. She says the president has her vote. “Barack Obama will never ignore our troops, he will fight for them that’s why he is my choice on November 6th.” Also speaking to the delegates was Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. As former chief of staff to the president, Emanuel saw firsthand the progress that has been made when it comes to healthcare. “Because of President Obama’s leadership every American will have access to affordable, quality health care,” Emanuel said. “That was the change we believed in, that was the change we fought for, that was the change president Obama delivered.”
