The latest announced Republican candidate for governor of Illinois opposes same-sex marriage. State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington, pictured) says on one hand, the U.S. Supreme Court has affirmed states’ powers.   “But it also said that there are protected rights for same-sex couples under the federal tradition,” Brady said. “I continue to be a supporter of marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, but we’re going to have to read and feel what the repercussions are before we venture into this.”

Brady, in 2010 the winner of a close primary and the loser of a close general election, calls incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn “a nice guy” who has only succeeded in hurting people with the 2011 income tax increase. As for the apparent big dog in the Republican spending race, Brady says, “Bruce Rauner can spend his personal wealth and outspend any candidate, but money doesn’t win elections. Votes do.”
