The Wood River Drainage and Levee District has closed the floodgates at Wood River Creek in East Alton. The gates are located next to the Circle K gas station and the Taco Bell along Route 3 and at the end of Broadway and the Homer Adams Parkway in Alton.
The rising creek and rising Mississippi River has pushed the water level high enough to impact the roadway, so the gates are being closed to protect the businesses and residents who live on the east side of the levee. Meanwhile the flood gates on Powder Mill Road in East Alton remain closed due to high water.
