The suspect in a January crash in a Godfrey subdivision that killed a man has been charged with additional crimes, following the return of toxicology reports. 24-year-old Jacob L. Fickle of the 200 block of Mercury Drive is now facing four additional charges of Aggravated DUI Resulting in Death - one charge for each drug detected in his body. He was previously charged with Leaving The Scene of a Traffic Accident Resulting in Death.
73-year-old Marlin F. Bushnell died after being run over by the SUV as he sat in his living room when the truck allegedly driven by Fickle missed a turn and plowed into the house. Captain Mike Dixon says a biological test following the test showed the presence of cannabis, cocaine, Alprazolam, and a blood alcohol level in excess of .08.
Each of the new charges are class 2 felonies, punishable by 3-7 years in prison each. The previous charge is a Class 1 Felony, punishable by 4-15 years. Fickle was charged last summer with numerous counts of felony theft over $500 for allegedly stealing a number of air conditioners to support a heroin habit. Fickle was awaiting court on those charges.
