Not many people have a full knowledge of what food they are consuming. Even with nutrition labels, there is information still left out, such as if a food is genetically modified.
“There is certain food products that are considered GMO foods. Soybeans. Corn. Unless it’s organic it is probably genetically modified,” State Sen. Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) said.

Koehler is holding meetings across the state – starting Thursday in Normal – to gather information about these types of food.
“The bill just requires there would be labeling, that if a food product contained genetically engineered or modified food products that it just states that, that within this food product it contains GMOs,” Koehler said.
In addition to today’s hearing, from 10 a.m.-noon at Illinois State University, hearings will be planned for Carbondale and Chicago.
