A missing Godfrey man was found safe this morning. 85 year old David Winnett, who lives at a private home at the United Methodist Village retirement community, apparently wandered off sometime Tuesday and was reported missing by his son yesterday when he did not find him at his home. Winnett was found just after 8am today in a wooded area about a half mile from his home and is expected to recover.
Madison County Sheriff's Department Major Brad Wells says Winnett was found thanks to help from a neighbor:
Winnett was found relatively unharmed, but was taken to a local hospital for observation. Police had called in a search helicopter last night along with a K-9 Unit to assist in the search when he was reported missing last evening. Wells says Winnett was in fairly good health, but was disoriented when he was found with a few cuts and scrapes from spending the night outdoors.
