The pleasant weather has been the star attraction at the Illinois State Fair. Some 367,000 people visited the fairgrounds in the first four days of the fair, up almost 15,000 from the same period last year. While the fair runs 10 days, plus the night-before preview night, a strong first weekend sets the tone for the whole run, says acting Illinois agriculture director Bob Flider.

“I think the glorious weather we’ve had has been great, and (Sunday) night’s rain that came through here came at the right time,” says Flider. Flider credits the attractions such as Friday grandstand headliner Eric Church with bringing in people as well. The Sunday crowd of 90,000 brought the four-day total closer to last year's pace; the first Sunday of the 2011 fair saw 134,000 visitors.
