The Wood River City Council has voted to pay tribute to a former member by placing a memorial bench at Belk Park. The move comes less than a week after former councilman Bill Redden (pictured) died at the age of 85. Redden served on the Wood River City Council for 9 years, after spending 29 years as an employee of the Roxana School District.
Wood River Mayor Fred Ufert says they hope to have the bench in place by the spring.
He says the cost is minimal, at about $750. The family is on board with the plan, according to Ufert. In other council action this week, requests for proposals to renovate city hall will be going out soon. It is an interior remodel that is being considered, with new ceiling tiles, carpeting, paint, and new counters and windows all being considered.
