The Illinois Supreme Court and Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier have appointed Stephen P. McGlynn as a resident Circuit Judge in the 20th Judicial Circuit. He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Michael N. Cook, who is undergoing drug treatment following his arrest last month on heroin-possession charges.
The Belleville Republican was appointed to the appellate court in 2005, but was unable to capture the appellate seat in 2006, losing to Democrat Bruce Stewart in the general election. He wrote 109 decisions and orders and participated in 390 separate criminal and civil matters during his time on the Appellate bench.
McGlynn's appointment will begin on July 1st and end on December 1st, 2014.
