The manager of the Bethalto McDonald’s received a surprise visit from Ronald McDonald and other corporate officials on Tuesday when he was presented with the Ray Kroc Award. Mark Harlan of Alton was honored with the top recognition of the company for his dedication and service.
Harlan is 31 years old, has worked at the McDonald’s for 12 years and been manager for the past year and a half. Store co-owner Dick Bold told those assembled he was thankful for Harlan’s dedication and helped present him with the award, a cake and an oversized check for $2,500. Harlan and his family will also receive a free trip to Disney World in Florida while they attend the worldwide McDonald’s Conference in Orlando later this spring. Harlan was one of only two managers in the St. Louis area to receive the award. The Bethalto and Godfrey McDonald’s were also honored with the company’s Gold designation for outstanding customer satisfaction. Bethalto was number one out of the 550 McDonald’s in the St. Louis region. Bold and his wife Susan own the McDonald’s in Bethalto, Godfrey, Alton and Hamel.
