Illinois State Senator Sam McCann held off a challenge for the Republican nomination and appears to be headed back to another term. McCann won the race in the 50th Senate District with 63% of the vote over Gray Noll. There is no Democrat on the ballot for the fall.
The Republican nomination for Judge of the 3rd Judicial Circuit, Thomas Burkart defeated Mark Rabe with 55% of the vote. He will face Democrat Associate Judge Kyle Napp this fall.
In the Republican race for Illinois House in District 108, Charles Mier won over incumbent lawmaker Paul Evans and former Madison County State's Attorney Don Weber. All other districts had unopposed primary races on Tuesday.
Voter turnout was very light across much of southwestern Illinois. Madison County reported just under 20-percent, with Jersey County not quite to 16-percent. Macoupin County had its own problems with ballots and is late in reporting complete results. About 25 counties in Illinois had ballots that were too wide to fit into the voting machines and had to be trimmed in order to fit. Election officials say it slowed things a bit for some voters until the ballots were corrected, but they will recount each ballot to make sure all votes are counted.
