Reaction to the Quinn administration’s decision to close a couple of state residential facilities is not favorable, and one of the more outspoken critics is State Senator Sam McCann (pictured). The Carlinville Republican is especially bothered by the announcement that the Jacksonville Developmental Center, and says the governor's decision shows a complete disregard for the unique needs of the residents who will be displaced.
McCann says closing the facility will also mean the loss of 423 jobs and impact many more people in the community and the region.
Also on the closure list is the Tinley Park Mental Health Center. A spokeswoman for the governor says the move achieves two purposes: providing better services and saving money. About 600 residents would be in home- and community-based settings.
