The position of Mayor in Godfrey will continue to pay an annual salary of $35,000. Trustees could have voted a raise this week, but current mayor Mike McCormick said he did not want any more money to do the job. Trustees argued they need to look out for the future, and attracting candidates once McCormick either steps away from the job or is unseated, but eventually agreed to keep the pay as-is.
Trustee Mark Stewart looked at the possibility of passing the raise anyway.
There were concerns there would still be a tax liability under that plan. One office that did get a raise was that of Village Clerk. The annual salary has been stuck at $40,500 for the past four years, but will be increased by 3% over each of the next four years. Pam Whistler has held the clerk's position for more than three decades.
