As Olin Corporation continues to move to Mississippi, fewer people will be employed at the once-thriving plant in East Alton. While that is bad news for those impacted by layoffs, it will not necessarily put a direct hit on the village’s finances, according to Mayor Fred Bright.
Bright tells The Big Z the impact may be felt more down the road.

Olin Brass was sold to new owners a couple of years ago. Bright says they have reinvented their business and now sell what is known as red brass, which is used in nuclear reactors and high-pressure vessels. With a patent on the product, he says the future looks promising for the business.
