Area lawn and garden enthusiasts can get intensive horticulture training through University of Illinois Extension's Master Gardener program. The training program consists of weekly sessions that start in January, and registration will begin soon. Master Naturalist training registration ends Friday, but Master Gardener registration starts next month.
It costs $225 for the 16-week course, which includes a copy of the Illinois Master Gardener manual and attendance to the training classes. Participants get more than 60 hours of in-depth instruction on a variety of topics. The U of I's Sarah Ruth tells The Big Z after you get certified, you still need to complete a certain number of volunteer hours.
