Macoupin County Board Chairman and Illinois Senate Candidate Andy Manar says he would like to see the playing field leveled for third party and independent candidates filing for offices around the state. The Bunker Hill Democrat says it is an uphill battle for these candidates to get on the ballot, and would push for changes if he is elected in the fall.
In some cases, if you are filing petitions and are not a Democrat or Republican, Manar says the law requires three times as many signatures be filed as your competition.
Third party candidates filed for various offices across Illinois this week with the State Board of Elections. In total, approximately 40 third party candidates and independents filed for various offices across the State including federal offices, legislative offices and President. Manar is running for office in the newly-redrawn 48th District.
