Federal authorities say a local man will spend 30 months in jail for being in possession of a weapon while on parole. 31 year old Jerry Roof of East Alton pleaded guilty last Thursday to being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced.
According to court documents, in January 2014, Roof’s probation officer found him in possession of a firearm at his residence in violation of his probation and federal law. As a convicted felon, Roof could not lawfully possess a firearm. Roof was charged in federal court in East St. Louis and pled guilty. He must serve his entire sentence of 30 months since there is no parole in the federal prison system. Roof will also serve 3-years of supervised release and pay $400 in fines and court fees.
