A man operating a jet ski got too close to the Mel Price Locks and Dam Sunday struck a log then got pulled under the dam going 17 feet under the water only to pop out on the other side. The incident took place Sunday afternoon and the Alton Fire Department Marine One rescued the man.
The victim, who was not identified, was wearing a life jacket that likely saved his life. A 9-1-1 call was made around 1:45pm Sunday and the Alton Fire Department boat was put into action. Alton Deputy Fire Chief Mark Harris tells The Big Z the man was pulled from the water below the dam, and his jet ski was also recovered.

He walked under his own power to a waiting ambulance and was taken to a local hospital for treatment but is expected to recover. The man had rented the Jet Ski from a company called River Road Watersports but apparently rode outside the designated safety zone. The company makes reservations online and launches from public boat launch in Alton.
