A rural Granite City man is jailed after allegedly shooting a neighbor's dog Wednesday evening. 62-year-old William A Brown is charged with felony Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and Aggravated unlawful use of a Weapon, as well as a misdemeanor count of Aggravated Assault. The 6-year-old American Bulldog had been playing with its owner's 3-year-old daughter just minutes before the incident at a home in the 1,000 block of St. Thomas Road.
After hearing a gunshot, the owner stepped out of his back door to see the dog bleeding from the face and Brown allegedly holding a pistol in the adjoining yard. That is when Madison County Sheriff's Department Captain Mike Dixon tells The Big Z Brown is said to have threatened to shoot the dog's owner, but fled when the owner called police.
