An investigation is underway in the death of an Alton man Friday in Belleville. Authorities say 54-year-old Richard A. Risinger of the 3,000 block of Edgewood in Alton was working with a tree trimming service in Belleville when his clothing apparently got tangled in a branch he was feeding into a wood chipper. It pulled him in head first, apparently killing him instantly.
Risinger was part of a crew consisting of about a half-dozen people, including his wife. She reportedly witnessed the accident. They were working at a private residence. Risinger was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:15am of massive trauma. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
