An Alton man is facing charges in connection with an attack on two men in East Alton over the Labor Day weekend. 29 year old Lavonte D. Brownlee of the 800 block of Washington is charged with attempted murder and armed violence after he allegedly attacked two brothers outside the B & R Tavern in East Alton on September 2.
East Alton Police say Brownlee was part of a group of people involved in an altercation inside the bar the night of the incident and when it moved outside, the fight began and grew with more people becoming involved. Authorities do not believe the victims, 40 year old John Parker and 31 year old Jay Parker were a part of the initial confrontation, but got caught up in the melee. The charges accuse Brownlee of stabbing John Parker at least a half dozen times and when Jay Parker tried to stop him, Brownlee allegedly stabbed him twice. Both men were hospitalized and have since been released. Brownlee is being held in the Madison County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond. He was on parole at the time of the incident.
