A Gillespie man is charged in the death of his three-month-old daughter. 27 year old Richard Morgan Jr. faces one count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Nevaeh Morgan on November 23. Investigators filed the charges and made the arrest on Tuesday following weeks of interviews and determined the child died after Morgan stuffed a baby wipe in her mouth.
Gillespie Police and the Illinois State Police worked together on the investigation, along with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the Macoupin County State's Attorney. Prosecutors have not elaborated on the cause of death, nor have they discussed the other adult who was present inside Morgan's home at the time of the incident. Authorities do not believe the child's death was intentional, but called Morgan's actions reckless. Morgan is being held in the Macoupin County Jail on a bond of $100,000.
