Charges have been filed in Macoupin County in connection with the death of a three-year-old boy in January. 24-year-old William Bolin of Livingston has been charged with aggravated battery to a child and involuntary manslaughter following the death of 3-year-old Ryder Vercoglio of Gillespie.
Authorities in Macoupin County say the child was taken to a hospital in Litchfield on January 3 after being reported as unresponsive in a 911 call from his home. He was later transported to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis where he died two days later. Ryder’s cause of death was blunt force trauma, with the allegation that he suffered some sort of abuse. Investigators say Bolin was a friend of the child’s mother and was supposed to be caring for young Ryder while his mother was at work. Bolin is being held in the Macoupin County Jail in lieu of $1-million bond.
