An Alton man who allegedly broke the conditions of his bond has been ordered held, possibly until his trial on a weapons charge. 27 year old Charles Thomas of the 2000 block of Lewis Street is accused of firing shots near Lovejoy School in Alton two years ago, but recently was arrested on another charge when he allegedly tried to flee from police just days after posting bond.
Thomas finally made bond on the weapons charge last month and was ordered not to break the law, but was back in the Madison County Jail yesterday after being charged with aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude during an incident on January 14. In that case, he reportedly fled from an officer at more than 21 miles per hour and disobeyed two or more traffic control devices. He was formerly charged on January 20 and was taken into custody again this week. Associate Judge Jennifer Hightower ordered him held until a new bond hearing takes place later this month.
