One man is hospitalized with second degree burns over the majority of his body and another is in jail after allegedly assaulting Alton fire personnel on the scene of a house fire in the early morning hours Wednesday.  Alton Police say 27-year-old Henry L. Jarrett of the 3,800 block of Western Avenue was trying to get back into the burning building when he slammed into a firefighter, causing him to fall on his oxygen tanks and hurt his lower back.

Officers on the scene were able to get control of Jarrett and remove him from the path of the firefighters, who were able to locate the fire and a badly burned male in the basement.  The burn victim was airlifted to St. John's Hospital in St. Louis with second degree burns over the majority of his body.  Jarrett was arrested due to his alleged actions at the scene, and on two active warrants.  He is being held on $75,000 bond.
