A first term member of the Madison County Board has decided to run for board chairman in next year's election. Chris Slusser, a Wood River Republican, declared his candidacy yesterday. He says it has been a productive three years since he was first elected to the board in 2008, but there's more he feels can be done.

And he says taking a shot at this higher office is one way to accomplish his goals.

Slusser was a supporter of putting the county's checkbook online, and would like to see it become more user-friendly. He serves as the Chief Financial Officer for a commercial real estate firm, after spending more than eight years as an investment advisor. Slusser currently represents District 15, which includes Wood River, Kendall Hill, Roxana, South Roxana and Hartford.
