A phone company is under fire for scamming Illinois residents.  Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed suit against Optic Internet Protocal, claiming it targeted Spanish-speaking customers and billed them for long-distance services they never agreed to.  The company allegedly made fake audio recordings to make it appear the customers agreed to the charges but, some of the tapes actually had the wrong voice and name of the customer.

Seventeen people filed complaints with Madigan’s office after learning of the scam, most say they never knew about the charges until they received their most recent bill.  Both state and federal law requires a company to get permission before making a switch in service.
