Madison County Democrats gathered on Monday in their first ever caucus-style straw poll vote and picked Hillary Clinton as their presidential nominee. The vote was close with Clinton pulling in 47.6% of the vote, over Bernie Sanders who garnered 46.2%, similar to the results in the Iowa caucus.
The vote total in Iowa was even closer with Clinton getting 49.8% and Sanders earning 49.6% of the vote. About 600 people gathered in seven Madison County locations; most were Democrats but some undecided voters also took part. Illinois will have a primary vote on March 15.
Republicans in Iowa picked Ted Cruz in their caucus with 27.7%; Donald Trump finished second at 24.3% and Marco Rubio in third with 23.1%.
