The Elijah P. Lovejoy memorial week begins Sunday at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church. The celebration includes several events around the city to remember abolitionist and free press martyr who was shot by a pro slavery mob in November 1837 guarding his newspaper press.
The foundation’s Ed Gray says the first event will be the annual Vesper Service on Sunday. Another highlight of the week will be the annual dinner at Lewis & Clark Community College on November 7, which includes the presentation of the Human Rights Award.
