A local golf course and banquet facility has closed. Lockhaven Golf Club along the Great River Road announced on Monday it would not reopen after decades in business in the Riverbend.  What was once a private club opened to the public a few years ago in an attempt to reverse its financial troubles, but the decision was made recently to close the doors yesterday.

The Lockhaven Development Board announced through its Facebook page on Monday that yesterday was the final day of business, although the club is honoring events booked through the rest of this month and providing deposit refunds for other cancelled future events.  Formerly the Lockhaven Country Club, the board attempted to rally community support two years ago for the course and banquet facility by changing its name and focus and opening to the community.   In January 2013, the facility became public with Walters Golf Management taking over the day-to-day operations of the golf course and banquet facility later that year.  Although bankruptcy was declared in August of 2013, the Lockhaven Development Board maintained ownership of the property and attempted to find alternate means to keep the facility open but apparently decided there were no other business options but to close.  Members, and those who had events booked at Lockhaven, were reportedly contacted on Monday with the news.  The Big Z received a news release from Lockhaven earlier today confirming the closure.  The statement also indicated the future of the property is yet to be determined.
