A local musician and teacher has been invited and will appear on today's Gateway Festival Orchestra "Red White and Blues" program. Bud Schultz Jr. came to the Riverbend 50 years ago to teach in the Alton School District.
Schultz is best known for his appearances with the "You Can't Beat Experience" Jazz Band and his services with the Greater Alton Concert Association. In tonight's concert Shultz will perform "Body and Soul" with the orchestra on tenor saxophone and will return in the second half of the program to perform "Birth of the Blues" on clairinet. This will be the opening concert in a series of Sunday evening concerts presented at the Washington University Quadrangle held annually in July. The Gateway Orchestra is directed by James E. Richards, Orchestra Director at UMSL. The concert is free to the public and starts at 7:30P.M.
