Many people are buying assault rifles in fear they will be banned in the new year. Whether or not that is the case, a local firearms expert says proper training and practice is necessary to operate the weapons properly. Piasa Armory owner Scott Pulaski is a licensed instructor, and is in the process of opening a shooting range on Landmarks Boulevard in Alton.
Pulaski says he stresses education in his courses.
Any restrictions on assault weapons on the statewide level will not be done in the current Lame Duck Session, but a federal proposal to create an national registry of those who own the firearms is being pushed by California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein.
