The Alton Fire Department and Godfrey Fire Protection District will receive grants from the Illinois American Water Company again this year. In Godfrey, $1,000 will go toward the purchase of three nozzles that will allow the equipment to work at lower water pressures. They will be installed on all three pumper trucks. Training materials will be purchased in Alton with its grant.
The no-match grant will allow the department to buy training materials, according to Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold.
Sebold also says that the opportunity to get grant money to upgrade their department is huge, when you consider how strapped the city is for cash right now. In total, Illinois American Water awarded 75 grants across the state worth a total of $73,000. Since its creation, the grant program has awarded over $245,000 across the state.
