This afternoon will be the 12th annual Thanksgiving Outreach at the River of Life Family Church in Alton. A large Thanksgiving meal will be served free of charge from 3-8pm, and the public is invited to partake in the event. Last year was the biggest one to date, with almost 1,200 people served at the facility on Fosterburg Road.
The outreach began more than a decade ago at New Testament Fellowship church following the 9-11 attacks, according to event organizer Marilyn Pruitt.
It was moved to River of Life Church in 2004 due to the popularity of the event. More than 200 volunteers from the church will help serve the meal prepared by Chef Bob Brown that included a full traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings including desserts. People are welcome to come in their own vehicles while others can ride busses to the church on Fosterburg Road. For information on bus pick-up points in Alton, Godfrey, East Alton and Wood River, call Pruitt at 567-3740.
