You are invited to the centennial celebration at the First Baptist Church of Wood River. Founded on June 10, 1916 in the residence of one of its founding members, the congregation within five years helped build the building at 300 East Lorena Avenue, where it continues to operate today.
It is one of the oldest continuously running churches in the Wood River area. The morning worship service at 10:15am will feature guest preacher, The Reverend Paul Gibson, Executive Minister of the American Baptist Churches of the Great Rivers Region. The Centennial Program will begin at the church at 2pm Sunday, and highlight the church's history and legacy in the community. Wood River Mayor Frank Akers will give the keynote address, with a reception and open house to follow.
