Complaints of loud music in the Village of Godfrey have led to the creation of an ordinance regulating the practice in an attempt to satisfy the neighbors while still allowing the bars to host live music. A couple of bars on Montclaire Avenue, have both been the focus of recent complaints. As introduced, the ordinance would prohibit music performed outside either by a band or dj after 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 10pm all other nights at any bar in the village.
The ordinance would amend the liquor control ordinance, which Village Attorney Tom Long thinks is a good way to address the issue
The ordinance could also be applied in cases where music being played inside the bars is drifting outside and causing a disturbance to the neighbors. Any bar that hosts live music would be required to obtain a Live Entertainment Permit at no cost to the business. The ordinance will receive second reading at the October 1 village board meeting.
