An arrest last week in the murder of an Alton man on August 8th helped clear the case for Alton Police and the St. Louis Major Case Squad, but there are still a handful of murder cases in the city that have not yet been solved. 41-year-old James E. Hubbard was killed in the 700 block of Oakwood Avenue in Alton on August 8th. That’s not far from where DaRon Hearn was murdered in 2007. No one has been charged in Hearn’s death.
While the St. Louis Major Case Squad was successful in bringing charges against a suspect in Hubbard’s murder, Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons says the “no snitch” policy is still in effect in parts of the community.

There are other unsolved cases that remain open in Alton, including one that dates back more than 25 years, but there is no statute of limitations on a murder charge. James Holman was killed in July of 2005; Felicia Rexford was stabbed to death on the Target parking lot in 1996; and Julianne Gottlob was killed in 1986. Anyone with information on any of these cases can call Alton Police at 463-3505, ext. 225, or the anonymous tip line at 465-5948.
