The estate of a Swansea man who drowned while swimming at Holiday Shores in 2009 is suing the association that runs the clubhouse, claiming a lifeguard on duty was on her cell phone at the time the victim slipped under the water. 45 year old Willie Batee died on July 25, 2009 while swimming near a beach at the lake, and the suit claims the lifeguard was not paying attention.
The lifeguard was not named in the suit, but the defendent, Holishor Association, is accused of failing to properly train the lifeguard, failed to administer proper rescue skills, and failure to provide adequate supervision. The suit says Batee went under the water and it took a dive team to find him about an hour later, with the cause of death listed at drowning. The case is set to be heard in November.
