The project to repair the region's aging levees is nearing completion, and a group of area lawmakers recently toured the levee near Alton and reports progress is good. A coalition of business and civic groups, community leaders and residents was formed several years ago to find ways to raise money and buy time to repair southwestern Illinois' Mississippi River levees.
State Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton) tells The Big Z the project remains at or ahead of schedule.
