Governor Pat Quinn says the state is much better off since he took office. It is a claim many lawmakers on both sides of the aisle disagree with, according to a series of statements made earlier this week. State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer (pictured), a Jacksonville Republican, says after hearing the governor's budget address Wednesday, he hopes there will be leadership shown from the executive branch.
Lawmakers say Quinn is pointing fingers at them for not passing a pension reform bill. But both Republicans and Democrats say Quinn hasn't made an effort to submit a bill of his own. They say Quinn needs to step up and take the lead on pension reform, paying down the bills, and improving the state's jobs outlook.
