A member of the conference committee on pension reform says a special session during the state fair could work this time around. State Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine) believes that time frame could coincide with the committee recommending legislation.

“I don’t know that that would be a wholly outrageous thing to do,” Murphy said, “because we might actually be ready to get this resolved by then.”

That wasn’t the case last year, Murphy said, when a one-day session during the fair didn’t produce results. The difference this time around is the conference committee.

“Now we’ve been working all summer on things, and we might be ready to present a proposal by at time,” Murphy said. “I hope we are.”

The governor hasn’t made any commitment to calling a special session between Aug. 8 and 18, but did say he was considering it while speaking to reporters earlier in the week.
