Motorists on I-270 will need to keep an eye out for construction crews this weekend as the Illinois Department of Transportation continues to work on an extensive rehabilitation project between the Mississippi River and Route 3. While it is a relatively short stretch of highway, it carries a large volume of traffic, so the closure is necessary for the safety of the workers, according to IDOT Engineer Barry Gibbs.
Eastbound traffic will be restricted to a single lane between 7am Saturday and 3pm Monday, weather permitting. Gibbs asks motorists to be patient, reduce speed, and use extreme caution when traveling through this area.
