The outgoing U.S. Secretary of Transportation says the man that will fill his shoes is a good pick. Secretary Ray LaHood, a Peoria native, says Charlotte, N.C. Mayor Anthony Foxx is a fine pick to replace him. “Mayor Foxx has done a great job in Charlotte,” LaHood said. “We’ve been working with him on a light rail project –on a street car project, on his airport - we’re building a new airport tower in Charlotte.”

LaHood says the president sent a message in picking Foxx that cities matter. Earlier this week President Obama announced Foxx as his new transportation secretary. Foxx is Obama's first black nominee among the new Cabinet members appointed for the second term. The president faced criticism early in his second term for a lack of diversity among his nominees.
